In 1972, Lane bought a small reclining chair company in Tupelo, Mississippi named Action Industries. Action Industries was founded in 1970 by Bo Bland and Mickey Holliman. Action sustained tremendous growth through gains in market share and product diversification over the next 20 years becoming a major force in the upholstered furniture industry. Today, the wood and upholstered divisions have become Lane Home Furnishings. Lane Furniture Industries is owned by Furniture Brands International which also owns other well known brand name companies... Broyhill, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage and Maitland Smith.

Lane furniture today is perfect for the Comfortably Eclectic and Thrifty Traditionalist. As the leader in upholstery furniture and home entertainment, Lane upholstery and entertainment products offer the ultimate in consumer comfort and convenience. Lane offers features like perfect pitch adjustment and zero gravity recline mechanisms, and optional power headrests, tablet style tables, in-arm storage, functional cup holders, and chaise-style reclining, all backed by a quality of product warranty. With all these features and more, Lane furniture has truly fulfilled the vision of comfortable quality innovative furniture which began in 1907 with John Edward, and Edward Hudson Lane.

Originally known as Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, Lane Furniture began as a father and son business venture. John Edward Lane, a railroad tycoon who founded the town of Altivista Virginia, invested 500 dollars into a packing box plant, giving his son the opportunity to build his own cedar chest crafting business.

In 1922, Lane officially adopted the family name, began an aggressive national advertising campaign, and launched a research and development program. With updated knowledge and relevant data gathered from these adventures, Lane created a sales force evolution moving away from typical commission based sales and developing a dedicated sales force. The effects of this allowed for broadened distribution and branding of the Lane company name and accounted for exponential success through the Great Depression.

Much was gained from experience and knowledge of the industry and the customer. Lane began to recognize the importance of creating an emotional bond between the consumer and the brand. Leveraging the power of celebrities, they launched a campaign that would propel the company into a successful case goods manufacturer of cedar chests, television cabinets, occasional tables, and accent pieces.

During 1967 to 1970, Lane Furniture acquired Hickory Chair, and reclining upholstery specialist Action Industries. They opened the Verona facility which specialized in producing recliners and purchased an additional development facility for manufacturing in-house reclining mechanisms.

In the 80’s, Lane merged with the well known Interco, who owned the popular name brands of Ethan Allen, Broyhill, London Fog, Converse, and Florsheim Shoes. With a $42 Million sales volume in place, Lane merged with the St Louis based Interco and opened the Saltillo factory which produced Recliners and Motion furniture and the Belden facility. Today, Lane is known for helping customers achieve their greatest desire for great style, casual comfort, all backed by prices that almost anyone can afford.
